Bureau Veritas and Suzhou Institute of Building Science jointly hosted Low/Zero Carbon and Green Building Seminar

On October 28, 2022, Low/Zero Carbon and Green Building Seminar, jointly hosted by Bureau Veritas and Suzhou Institute of Building Science, and co-sponsored by Shanghai Modern Service Industry Federation, Youth Committee of Suzhou Overseas Chinese and Envision Group, was held at the headquarters of Suzhou Institute of Building Science. Based on the "dual carbon" strategy, the seminar focused on green low carbon city construction, zero carbon industrial park construction, green building certification, digital asset management and other aspects, together with more than 100 guests from the industry, including government representatives, association representatives, experts and scholars, enterprise representatives, to explore urban sustainable development.

Julien BOUDET, Economic Office of the French Embassy in China, Wang Jin, Deputy Director of Suzhou Housing and Urban Rural Development Bureau, Fabien PACORY, Vice President of CCI France Chine, Wu Xiaoxiang, Chairman and President Suzhou Institute of Building Science, and Kevin Dai, Senior Vice President of Bureau Veritas delivered speeches.

Kevin Dai said in his speech that in the face of the severe challenges of climate change, China has made a commitment to the "double carbon" goal of "striving to achieve carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060". All walks of life have also raised this work to an unprecedented height, and some enterprises have also put forward clear goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutralization. As a global industry promoter providing sustainable development and other related services, Bureau Veritas also continues to provide relevant solutions and wisdom. How to achieve the grand goal of "double carbon" as soon as possible, we need to pay attention to the carbon emissions of key industries, including transportation, industry and construction. Today, based on the real estate and infrastructure industries, we will discuss with leaders, experts and partners to find a green development path and jointly help achieve the goal of "double carbon".

After the opening ceremony, the Guideline for the Construction of Low Carbon/Zero Carbon Industrial Parks, which were formulated with the participation of Bureau Veritas, was grandly released under the witness of the guests. Subsequently, Bureau Veritas Group and Suzhou Institute of Building Science jointly signed a strategic cooperation agreement, and the two sides will deepen cooperation in many aspects and fields.

During the keynote speech, 8 industry leaders brought wonderful sharing.

Terry Wang, Head of Green Buildings, Greater China, Bureau Veritas, said in his keynote speech that LEED, as a green building evaluation system widely used in the world, can be evaluated from the perspective of the whole life cycle of buildings, involving the whole process of building design, construction, operation and demolition. Under the initiative of promoting net zero globally, we should pay attention to the LEED Zero net zero system, and achieve a higher goal of "net zero" while achieving "green and low-carbon".

Jeffrey Du, Head of Sustainable Business Development, Building & Facility, Greater China, Bureau Veritas, gave an in-depth interpretation of the Guideline for the Construction of Low Carbon/Zero Carbon Industrial Parks in his keynote speech. He emphasized that the standards for zero carbon industrial parks play an important role in guiding the construction and transformation of low carbon and zero carbon industrial parks in a dual carbon environment.

Shi Qian, Secretary of the Party Committee, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of the College of Economics and Management of Tongji University, Li Zhenquan, Assistant of President, General Manager of the Science and Technology Industry Sector,  Suzhou Institute of Building Science, Xing Ge, Manager of Zero Carbon Business Development, Envision Digital, Li Shenhao, Head of Real Estate Management Technology and Sustainable Development of CBRE China, and Li Sheng, Head of Market Transformation and Development, North Asia, USGBC & GBCI, respectively shared and discussed.

After the speech, Du Risheng, USGBC&GBCI's general manager in North Asia, and Yang Hu, the general manager of Bureau Veritas' Greater China Construction Engineering and Facilities Division, jointly awarded the license for Unilever and Roche LEED certification project.

The round table discussion was presided over by Dong Zhujun, Senior Manager of Envision Group, together with Shi Qian, Secretary of the Party Committee, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of the College of Economics and Management of Tongji University, Li Zhenquan, Assistant of President, General Manager of the Science and Technology Industry Sector,  Suzhou Institute of Building Science, Zhang Liao, Chairman of Shanghai Jumbo Consulting Co., Ltd., Zhou Jiangong, Founder of Weijin Research, and Zou Rong, Vice President of Shanghai Modern Service Industry Federation and Director of Low Carbon Economy Special Committee, Jack Yang, General Manager of Building & Facility, Greater China, Bureau Veritas, jointly launched a "carbon" journey.
