Process industry

The process industry is an industry based on production through physical and/or chemical changes. Typical process industries include petroleum and chemical industries etc.

The characteristic of the process industry is that its production is mostly carried out under the conditions of high temperature and high pressure, and flammable, explosive, toxic and harmful environment as well. If there are security loopholes, it will easily have catastrophic consequences for personnel, equipment and environment. The State Administration of Work Safety has issued Document No. 116, which requires enterprises to conduct safety lifecycle management and assessment related to Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).

Bureau Veritas provides a complete functional safety lifecycle services by covering process industries in accordance with a range of international and domestic standards (IEC 61508, IEC 61511, ANSI/ISA-84.01, GB 20438, GB/T 21109, GB/T 50770, etc.) to ensure the functional safety of process industry companies, including:

For Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)

  • Risk Analysis
  • SIL rating
  • SIL verification

Subsystem for Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)

SIS systems are usually made up of many subsystems (components). Validation of the SIL capabilities of these subsystems (components) is a necessary part of a complete SIS system that meets functional safety requirements. A typical SIS subsystem (component) includes:

  • Pressure, temperature, flow transmitter, isolation barrier
  • Control unit: SIS control unit, DCS control unit with safety capability, safety PLC, safety controller, etc.
  • Valves: ball valves, butterfly valves, globe valves, gate valves, plug valves, regulating valves, etc.
  • Actuator: electric, pneumatic, hydraulic, gas-liquid, electro-hydraulic actuators, etc.

Bureau Veritas has a leading position in the number of project cases in the SIS subsystem product certification field, and can provide you with one-stop services for functional safety related to various products such as training, consulting, review, audit, evaluation, and certification services.

Functional Safety Management System for Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) related companies

Standards such as IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 point out that a functional safety management system is required as a basis for functional safety projects to ensure correctness, testability, planning and traceability throughout the life cycle of product development, design, integration, and operation. A well-functioning Functional Safety Management System (FSM) is a comprehensive requirement for all manufacturers, integrators, design units, and owners.

Bureau Veritas provides you with comprehensive Functional Safety Management System (FSM) related services such as training, consulting, evaluation, and certification services.
