Alibaba released the 2022 ESG report, and Bureau Veritas witnessed its commitment to social responsibility
On August 29, Alibaba Group Holdings Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Alibaba") released the "Alibaba Environment, Society and Governance Report 2022" (hereinafter referred to as "ESG report"), which publicly demonstrated Alibaba's phased goals, actions and progress as the head of domestic Internet technology enterprises, while creating commercial value. This is the first time Alibaba Group has systematically released ESG report, which not only provides a framework for action to solve a series of global challenges, but also is an important cornerstone for Alibaba to move towards the 102nd year.
As a long-term partner of Alibaba, Bureau Veritas conducted independent third-party verification of the relevant environmental data in the ESG report and issued an ESG environmental data verification statement. Bureau Veritas has witnessed Alibaba's continuous application of digital technology to business expansion, social progress, environmental harmony, and the process of creating a new business ecology with countless participants. While the enterprise is developing sustainably, it has joined hands with many stakeholders to build a green and sustainable business ecology and create business value.
The report shows that in the field of environment, Alibaba's focus has expanded from carbon reduction to green water and green mountains. During fiscal year 2022, Alibaba reduced 619944 tons of carbon through energy structure transformation, and 21.6% of the electricity used by Alibaba cloud came from clean energy; By the end of 2021, the Qiandao Lake water fund jointly established by Alibaba public welfare foundation had taken agricultural water protection and management measures on 5000 mu of farmland to reduce water pollution caused by chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
Enterprise development is closely related to climate change. Especially since the establishment of the double carbon goal, governments at all levels, enterprises and institutions have also formulated their own carbon emission reduction goals, and derived ESG strategies. The growth and development of enterprises will inevitably face more sustainable development plans such as social responsibility and environmental governance. ESG report and information disclosure is one of the important performances to show the efforts of enterprises in this regard, and to explain the value created by enterprises and make contributions to sustainable development goals in an efficient way. As an advocate of the green industry, Bureau Veritas can provide enterprises with services including ESG social responsibility report verification, green manufacturing system evaluation, carbon verification, green finance and so on in the field of sustainability. It is willing to work hand in hand with customers to explore practical ways of sustainable development.
