Bureau Veritas Attends 2021 China Petroleum and Chemical International Conference (CPCIC) to Discuss the Construction of a Safety System for Sustainable Development of New Energy

2021 Nov 1

From October 25th to 29th, 2021 CPCIC, an international, professional and branded annual industry event, was held in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, in joint efforts of the People's Government of Zhejiang Province and Ningbo Municipal People's Government, together with China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF). On the 28th, the 5th International Chemical Safety and Security Forum was held. An Haijing, Head of Technical Center at Bureau Veritas China, delivered a speech on the topic of Building a Safety System for Sustainable Development of New Energy, elaborating on the importance of safety for the high-quality development of new energy together with experts in the field of safety.

Establish a "New Safety" Concept

An Haijing said that under the background of realizing "Double Carbon" (namely carbon peaking and carbon neutrality) goals, the industrial structure will undergo significant changes, inevitably bringing new challenges and imposing impacts on safety production and emergency management. At present, the development of new energy is regarded as a global initiative to follow the trend of science and technology and promote industrial restructuring. We all know that development and safety complement each other. The safety of new energy sustainability should never be ignored and risks must be taken into account in advance. Thus, we need to establish a "New Safety" concept: safety is a control process; safety prevents risk; safety is a state; safety is a standard. The core of safety lies in effective risk management implementation. In terms of the construction of a new energy safety system for sustainable development, we recommend: adhere to safety production policy in the new era, strengthen the whole life cycle of essential safety; learn from overseas experience, based on improved technical standards in China; take risk control as the core, fully utilize integrity management; learn from industrial best practices, ensure research and development technology accumulation; embrace digital revolution, improve risk acceptance criteria.

Bureau Veritas has accumulated loads of practical experience in the field of safety for a long term. With the support of a network of over 78,000 employees in more than 140 countries and a team of experts from 10 oil, gas and chemical technical centers, Bureau Veritas is committed to working with its partners in the industry of new energy to promote high-quality development of industrial safety.
