Bureau Veritas Low/Zero Carbon and Green Building Seminar Ended Successfully

2022 Aug 15

On August 11, 2022, Bureau Veritas, a world-renowned third-party testing, inspection, certification and technical consulting organization, successfully held Low/Zero Carbon and Green Building Seminar in Guangzhou. Technical experts from Bureau Veritas on green building and sustainable development and expert representatives from nearly 40 enterprises and associations in the industry participated in the seminar.

Kevin DAI, Senior Vice President of Bureau Veritas and General Manager of Building and Infrastructure Business Group, Greater China, Bureau Veritas said in his opening speech that in the face of the severe challenge of climate change, China has made the "double carbon" target commitment of "striving to achieve carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060". All walks of life have raised the "double carbon" target to an unprecedented height. Some enterprises have set clear targets of carbon peak and carbon neutralization. How to realize the grand goal of "double carbon" as soon as possible, we need to pay attention to the carbon emission of key industries, including transportation, industry and building. Bureau Veritas has done a lot of substantive work in the sustainable development business, especially in the green building and low-carbon fields, but this is only the beginning. Today, based on building, real estate and infrastructure, we discuss with representatives from CCI France Chine, USGBC and partners from all walks of life to find a green development path with "carbon" and jointly help achieve the "double carbon" goal.

Fabien PACORY, Vice President of CCI France Chine and member of the Council of CCI France Chine, stressed in his opening speech that the environment and challenges we are facing are very severe. It is predicted that the proportion of the global urban population will rise to 70% by 2050, and the urban space needs to be constantly expanded to accommodate the new population. China has already begun to take actions to meet these challenges, and new opportunities will follow. We will focus on green industries, investment in green buildings, green infrastructure and technological upgrading, and the construction of zero carbon cities. We will focus on the transformation of mega city clusters such as Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay area, and work together to build a sustainable future.

As early as 2017, WorldGBC launched the "promoting net zero" initiative to help promote carbon emission reduction in the construction industry. Its goal is to ensure that all new construction projects will achieve net zero by 2030, while advocating that all existing buildings will achieve net zero in operation by 2050. How to help green buildings move towards net zero? Terry WANG, Head of Green Buildings, Greater China, Bureau Veritas, said in his keynote speech that LEED, as a globally widely used green building evaluation system, can be evaluated from the perspective of the whole life cycle of buildings, involving the whole process of building design, construction and operation and building demolition. Under the global initiative of promoting net zero, we should pay attention to LEED Zero system, and achieve the higher goal of "net zero" while achieving "green and low carbon".

The international Zero Carbon Industrial Park standard jointly created by Bureau Veritas and Envision Group has been released recently. Jeffrey DU, Head of Sustainable Business Development, Building & Facility, Greater China, Bureau Veritas, gave an in-depth interpretation of the standard in his keynote speech. He said that the construction of the zero carbon park should follow the national "30 · 60" carbon peak and carbon neutral planning path, start from the three dimensions of energy supply, energy use and carbon fixation and reduction, take greenhouse gas emissions and energy management as the technical support, take into account the development ideas of environmental protection and circular economy, establish a perfect zero carbon park management system, offset the generated emissions through carbon trading, and finally realize the zero carbon development of the industrial park. The zero carbon industrial park standard has played an important guiding role in the construction and transformation of low-carbon and zero carbon industrial parks under the double carbon environment.

XING Ge, General Manager of Intelligent Zero Carbon Business Development, Envision, shared a number of Chinese practice cases of low-carbon / zero carbon park construction for the participants. In the global post epidemic era and the global "Green Renaissance" trend, Envision relies on its own technological advantages and combines renewable energy, green transportation and digital solutions to create a Envision Ordos Zero Carbon Industrial Park. Through new energy investment, energy and carbon management, energy efficiency improvement, green power and environmental rights trading, Envision Jiangyin Zero Carbon Industrial Park has been transformed. With the "dual control of energy consumption" in the 13th five year plan and the "dual control of carbon emissions" in the 14th five year plan, the "low carbon / zero carbon transformation" of the park is imminent. Envision "maoc methodology" combines the standard of "Zero Carbon Industrial Park" and works with Bureau Veritas to build a zero carbon park end-to-end. Based on EnOS™, a digital platform for "energy and carbon dual control" management of the park is built.

Guangzhou Taikoo Hui inherits the excellent tradition of Taikoo real estate SD 2030 in sparing no effort to invest in sustainable development, and has obtained LEED certification three times in ten years. CHEN Jianyang, Deputy Manager of Guangzhou Taikoo Hui Property Engineering, introduced that the energy saving rate of Taikoo Hui shopping mall and two towers is considerable, and the water saving rate is also rising. This is due to Taikoo Hui's investment in new energy, equipment transformation and upgrading establishment of energy efficiency management platform and energy management platform, etc.

CAI Shengjun, Senior Manager of Market Transformation and Development Department, North Asia, USGBC & GBCI, and Jack YANG, General Manager of Building & Facility, Greater China, Bureau Veritas, jointly awarded LEED EB recertification project of Taikoo Hui Guangzhou commercial complex. WANG Jing, Vice President, North Asia, USGBC & GBCI, sent congratulations via video, congratulating Bureau Veritas on the successful conclusion of the seminar, and especially congratulating the green building team of Bureau Veritas on helping Guangzhou Taikoo Hui to obtain LEED platinum recertification of existing buildings at the beginning of this year.

Presided over by Jack YANG, General Manager of Building & Facility, Greater China, Bureau Veritas, XING Ge, General Manager of Intelligent Zero Carbon Business Development, Envision, DING Zhiquan, Director of the Fourth Navigation Engineering Survey and Design Institute, China Communication Construction, CAI Shengjun, Senior Manager of Market Transformation and Development Department, North Asia, USGBC & GBCI, LONG Xiao, Deputy Secretary-General of Guangzhou Association of Building Economy Promotion (GABEP), Jeffrey DU, Head of Sustainable Business Development, Building & Facility, Greater China, Bureau Veritas, started a "carbon" journey on the links and differences among green buildings, low-carbon buildings, zero carbon buildings and smart buildings.

In order to achieve the "double carbon" goal, we need all industries to make continuous efforts in planning, system standards, technology updating and many other aspects. As a global promoter of audit and certification services, Bureau Veritas is committed to helping the construction of green and low-carbon smart cities, and helping enterprises become more efficient, organized and trustworthy in the journey of achieving sustainable business and creating a more sustainable future, and jointly create a better world.
